A long time ago, hubby and I matched up.  We found each other at college and have been together ever since.  Besides the lovey-dovey stuff, we match in other ways.  We dress alike.

I know some couples do on purpose, wearing matching red sweaters or coats. A couple walks in my neighborhood wearing the same thing, usually Cal or Oregon jerseys. Every day it’s a different outfit, a matching pair like out of a game of Go Fish. I’m not one of those and neither is hubby.

I don’t know what it is, but my husband and I have an uncanny connection to dress similarly when we are going out together. We seem to pick the same color palette. Black and navy, green and navy, black on black, gray and black are the general mix, never pink or purple. However, Barbie colors are kind of in for guys so we might match up one day in the favorite color of four-year-old girls. Hubby recently shocked both my seventeen-year-old fashionisto and bought a purple shirt. He’s even into colored jeans, no plum yet like mine.

We don’t look one stitch the same, which makes the match-up even more unlikely.  Our coloring is opposite:  blonde vs black hair and snow white freckly skin vs caramel.  The vibe is the same, the part that manifests itself in our clothing.

We playfully argue about who picked the outfit first. He might get dressed before me but I tell him I had the idea first; he gets ready quicker than I do. Just yesterday, without speaking to each other, we emerged in an outfit for The City, all matched up like a clothing ad or Christmas card photo. It was kind of cute, a better matching mystery than usual, so we had my son take a picture.

My theory, I think couples have special look-alike connections kind of like people and their pets.

What do you think?

Kind of Yin and Yang.
